MARWIS among Prism Award Finalists

Last week, the event of the photonics related prestigious PRISM Award took place. MARWIS was among the finalists. This report explains in detail what it’s all about and what it’s based on

PRISM-Award

Since 2008, SPIE (Society of Photographic Instrumentation Engineers) and Photonics Media have honored the best opto-electronic innovations of the year. SPIE was founded in 1955 and is based in Bellingham. It is dedicated to optical technology and photonics. This is done in the form of topic related events, such as conferences and trade shows. As a result, they want to research in the field of optics, photonics, and make image processing engineering, and other fields known better by promoting them.

Photonics Media is an information platform as well as the editor of various photonics-related media, such the established journal Photonics Spectra. Also, it organizes the Photonics West exhibition. The headquarter is located in Pittsburgh Field, Massachusetts.

They created an very prestigious award given to innovative inventors of optoelectronic products: the PRISM Award.

On Wednesday, 11 February 2015, we participated in the PRISM Award ceremony for the first time. Of course our new mobile sensor MARWIS entered the race and was quite successful. It battled its way forward – against applicants from 35 different countries! There are 12 different categories and MARWIS belonged to the category “Detectors and Sensors”. After all, MARWIS was a finalist among the last three nominees. As part of an amazing event at the Marriott Hotel in San Francisco all participants celebrated their success.

The winners were selected by using a panel survey of selected industry experts, venture capitalists, luminaries and visionaries in the industry.

The reason for the PRISM Award is the intention to make known and promote the companies behind particularly innovative products changing the world. Referred to as the “Oscar of Photonics”, the PRISM Award counts as the most valuable one in this sector. The ceremony is held every year in conjunction with the SPIE Photonics West, a leading conference for biomedical, optical and microelectromechanical systems as well as photonic and industrial laser technology. Here the nominees and visitors gather and exchange information about the current state of the art.

For us, MARWIS, the new mobile road sensor, is clearly a winner and now officially one of the best sensor innovations.
