{"id":1307,"date":"2015-07-31T19:26:02","date_gmt":"2015-07-31T19:26:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ott.com\/blog\/?p=183"},"modified":"2021-01-10T15:19:16","modified_gmt":"2021-01-10T14:19:16","slug":"tide-level-monitoring-in-scotland-with-the-ott-rls-radar-level-sensor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.otthydromet.com\/en\/tide-level-monitoring-in-scotland-with-the-ott-rls-radar-level-sensor\/","title":{"rendered":"Tide Level Monitoring in Scotland with the OTT RLS Radar Level Sensor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ott.com\/en-us\/products\/water-level-1\/ott-rls-radar-level-sensor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">OTT RLS<\/a> is excellent for non-contact measurement of\u00a0rivers, lakes, and reservoirs, it&#8217;s also\u00a0very well suited to measure tide water level in bays and estuaries.<\/p>\n<p>In an interesting application in Scotland, the OTT RLS (along with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ott.com\/en-us\/products\/water-level\/ott-cbs-compact-bubbler-sensor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">OTT CBS<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ott.com\/en-us\/products\/meteorological-sensors\/ventus-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lufft Ventus<\/a>) is used to help ferry masters on the west coast of Scotland assess whether a port a has appropriate tide and weather conditions to harbor there. Ferries are crucial for local transportation in this region and historically, ferry masters have had to visually assess whether a port is suitable for landing. Ferry landings can be dangerous with high winds and rough seas.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 649px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ott.com\/uploads\/tx_ottimages\/ferry_lifeboat.jpg?1438356103295\" alt=\"\" width=\"649\" height=\"436\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ferry and lifeguard boat in Scotland<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n15 tide level and weather stations were installed along the western coast of Scotland. 13 included the OTT RLS and Lufft Ventus weather sensor, while two utilized an OTT CBS bubbler sensor where non-contact level measurement was required, but bubbler technology was more appropriate over radar.
