It&#8217;s monitored, amongst others, by a WS600 all-in-one weather sensor. Find out more about the project in the following blog post.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The De Aar Solar farm is the largest solar farm ever completed in the Southern Hemisphere, Africa and the Middle East region. It\u2019s placed six km away from De Aar in the Northern Cape. The farm expands over 100 hectares of the Emthanjeni Municipality &#8211; a local municipality in the Pixley ka Seme District.<\/p>\n<p>The facility generates electricity using 167\u2019580 solar (PV) panels feeding the 132 kV Eskom distribution system. The project is based on the South African Government\u2019s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPP). <a href=\"http:\/\/deaarsolar.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\">De Aar Solar Power<\/a> signed a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement with Eskom as well as an Implementation Agreement with the South African Department of Energy.<\/p>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Construction teams started the deployment in December 2012; the operation started in mid-2014. Since then, the solar farm produces power of 85,458 MWh per year, supplying enough clean, renewable energy for more than 19,000 South African homes. Through this, annual CO2 emissions of 82,000 Tons are avoided, meaning 1,640,800 Tons over the whole solar farm lifetime. Moreover, it saves 100,000,000 Liters water per year.<\/p>\n<p>The municipality benefits from the project not only with regards to <span class=\"tag_trans\">environment protection <\/span>but also in other aspects. It\u2019s attractive for the siting of new businesses, supports socio-economic development and creates new procurement opportunities.<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"\" lang=\"en\" tabindex=\"-1\">The solar park is monitored, amongst others, by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lufft.com\/products\/compact-weather-sensors-293\/ws600-umb-smart-weather-sensor-1832\/\" target=\"_blank\">WS600 all-in-one weather sensor<\/a> measuring precipitation, temperature, relative humidity, air pressure and wind. The monitoring system was installed by the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inaccess.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">InAccess<\/a> &#8211; one of the best <\/span><span class=\"tag_trans\">customers <\/span><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\" tabindex=\"-1\">of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lufft.com\/find-a-distributor\/\" target=\"_blank\">AEVEKO<\/a>.
