Since it&#8217;s difficult to eliminate or prevent the development of the influencing factors completely, an accurate observation of the current visibility enables weather services to deliver early weather warnings. For this purpose, they rely on professional visibility sensors such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lufft.com\/products\/visibility-present-weather-sensors-290\/\" target=\"_blank\">VS2k or VS20k<\/a>. They are an important component of meteorological early warning systems.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"short_text\" lang=\"en\" tabindex=\"-1\">What diminishes the visual range at all?<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\" tabindex=\"-1\">On the one hand fog bears the blame. It consists of water droplets dispersed in the atmosphere. They are formed by the condensation of moist, saturated air. On the other hand it&#8217;s because of fine dust, smog as well as fine, stirred up sand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\" tabindex=\"-1\">The Lufft sensors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lufft.com\/products\/visibility-present-weather-sensors-290\/\" target=\"_blank\">VS2k and VS20k<\/a> recognize aerosols and water droplets by using forward scattered light. <\/span><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\" tabindex=\"-1\">This is done by means of a light emitting and detection unit which are mounted opposite of each other in a certain angle. Thus, the sensor detects only the light scattered by fog or dust. Due to the high sensitivity of the electronics, it detects visual ranges between approximately 10 m and 20 km.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"\">The larger the measured value, the clearer the view.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<h2><strong><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"alt-edited\">VS2k and VS20k &#8211; a sophisticated new sensor family replaces the VS20<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span title=\"W\u00e4hrend der V2k mit seinem zwei Kilometer weiten Messbereich f\u00fcr Stra\u00dfenanwendungen vollkommen ausreicht, deckt der VS20k die Bed\u00fcrfnisse meteorologischer Dienste und Flugh\u00e4fen ab.\">While the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lufft.com\/products\/visibility-present-weather-sensors-290\/visibility-sensor-vs2k-umb-2298\/\" target=\"_blank\">V2k<\/a> with its two-kilometer-wide measuring range\u00a0 is completely sufficient for road applications, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lufft.com\/products\/visibility-present-weather-sensors-290\/visibility-sensor-vs20k-umb-2297\/\" target=\"_blank\">VS20k<\/a> covers the needs of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lufft.com\/applications\/meteorology-146\/\" target=\"_blank\">meteorological services<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lufft.com\/applications\/airport-weather-171\/\" target=\"_blank\">airports<\/a>. <\/span><span title=\"Gem\u00e4\u00df den ICAO-Richtlinien (International Civil Aviation Organization), ben\u00f6tigen Flugh\u00e4fen Sensoren, die eine meteorologische Sichtweite (Meteorological Optical Range, MOR) zwischen unter 50 und \u00fcber 10.000 Meter abdecken. \">According to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.icao.int\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">ICAO<\/a> (International Civil Aviation Organization) guidelines, airports need sensors that cover a Meteorological Optical Range (MOR) of between 50 and over 10,000 meters.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span title=\"Im Vergleich zum Vorg\u00e4ngermodell VS20, hat sich bei unseren neuen Sichtweitensensoren viel getan.\">Compared to the previous model VS20, our new visual range sensors come with great enhancements. <\/span><span title=\"Insbesondere das Geh\u00e4use \u00fcberarbeitete unser Entwicklerteam komplett: Es ist nun seewasserbest\u00e4ndig, eloxiert, spezialbeschichtet und besitzt die Schutzklasse IP66. \">In particular the housing was reworked completely by our developer team: It is now seawater-resistant, anodized, specially coated and has the protection class IP66.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span title=\"Dank einer intelligenten Selbst\u00fcberwachungsfunktion erkennen und melden unsere Sichtweitensensoren Schmutz auf der Linse.\">Thanks to an intelligent self-monitoring function, the VS2k and VS20k detect and report dirt on the lens as well as in the beam path. <\/span><span title=\"Zudem f\u00fchrt die Elektronik automatisch Nullpunkt-Kalibrierungen durch. \">In addition, the electronics automatically perform zero-point calibrations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span title=\"All diese Ma\u00dfnahmen sorgen f\u00fcr einen weitgehend wartungsfreien Betrieb.\">All these measures ensure a largely maintenance-free operation. <\/span><span title=\"Sollte ein Anwender dennoch Kalbrierungen vor Ort w\u00fcnschen, bieten wir ein passendes Kalibrier-Kit an. \">If a user still wants to carry out on-site calibrations, we offer a suitable calibration kit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span title=\"Der VS2k bzw. VS20k verf\u00fcgt \u00fcber eine RS-485 halbduplex 2-Draht sowie eine SDI-12 Schnittstelle zur einfachen Integration ins Messnetzwerk.\">The VS2k or VS20k is equipped with a RS-485 semi-duplex 2-wire interface for easy integration into measurement networks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\" tabindex=\"-1\">And what have we done against the spider issue?<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\" tabindex=\"-1\">At the previous model of the Lufft visibility sensors, the nidation of spiders led again and again to measurement impairments. This was associated with time-consuming maintenance calls.
