They installed the sensor in front of the vehicle shortening the distance between the Bluetooth transmitter and the receiver providing a more stable connection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"de\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\" tabindex=\"-1\">In the course of the last winter, the city of Amsterdam tested the mobile road weather sensor <a href=\"http:\/\/lufft-marwis.com\/en_US\/features\" target=\"_blank\">MARWIS<\/a> on a patrol vehicle. They installed the sensor in front of the vehicle shortening the distance between the Bluetooth transmitter and the receiver.<\/span> Most of the users install the sensor at the back of their car or at the side of their truck, but in this test, the new position proved itself: All measurements were accurate and reached the output device reliably. <\/span><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"de\" tabindex=\"-1\">However, it turned out that the sensor shouldn&#8217;t be monted in the center between the front tires, since even in only a few centimeters away from the tires, the conditions can differ extremely. <span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\" tabindex=\"-1\">In addition, the sensor shouldn&#8217;t hit the white road marking, as this influences the reflection negatively.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>The measurement technology<\/h2>\n<p><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span title=\"Der MARWIS gibt die Temperatur auf der Stra\u00dfe und in der Umgebung, Taupunkte, Wasserfilmh\u00f6hen, Eisanteile in Prozent, Reibung, relative Feuchte und die Stra\u00dfenbedingungen trocken, feucht, nass, Eis, Schnee, kritisch und chemisch nass aus.\">The MARWIS delivers road and ambient temperatures, dew points, water film heights, ice percentage, friction, relative humidity and the road conditions dry, moist, wet, ice, snow, critical and chemically wet. <\/span><span title=\"Er sendet die Messdaten direkt per Bluetooth an ein Tablet oder Smartphone in der Fahrzeugkabine, wo die Daten auf einer Map und in einer Tabelle angezeigt werden.\">It sends the measured data directly via Bluetooth to a tablet or smartphone in the vehicle cabin, where it&#8217;s displayed on a map and in a table. <\/span><span title=\"Eine kabelgebundene \u00dcbertragungsl\u00f6sung erm\u00f6glicht ein integrierter RS485 und Can-Bus-Anschluss. \">A wired transmission solution is allowed by an integrated RS485 and CAN bus connection.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span title=\"In Amsterdam leitet das Tablet in Echtzeit alle Messdaten an den Server im Rechenzentrum weiter.\">In Amsterdam, they used a tablet to pass all measurement data to the server in the operation centre in real time. With MARWIS such critical spots can easily be revealed.<\/p>\n<p>The sensor lenses were not checked or cleaned over the whole winter. When the sensor was checked afterwards, the lenses were still clean. The MARWIS cover protects the lenses not only from dust, dirt and spray but also from direct sunlight.<\/p>\n<p>Also the type of road surface (e.g. asphalt) had no influences on the measurement.<\/p>\n<p>All in all, the city management is satisfied with the test results. They are now planning to continue using MARWIS as part of their winter service equipment.
