A very special place<\/span> for<\/span> a weather station<\/span> is located<\/span> 1571 meters<\/span> above the sea level.<\/span> The weather station equipped with<\/span> Lufft <\/span>sensors is installed directly at the Rotenflue<\/em> mountain ski station in the middle of the beautiful Swiss <\/span>Mythen<\/em> Region<\/em><\/span>. Our<\/span> colleague<\/span> Olav Schroeder was on site for the installation and reports of the special location at first hand in the following blog post<\/span>…<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"Rotenflue_Titel\"<\/p>\n

When we met<\/span> for the first location inspection of a planned new weather station in December<\/span> last year, the sun hasn’t risen yet and I wasn’t aware of what was lying ahead. We had\u00a0already discussed, which kind of sensors to install, but I didn’t expect the fantastic view of the site.<\/span> After a short<\/span> welcome,<\/span> we took the<\/span> not yet<\/span> officially<\/span> opened<\/span> cable car driving steeply<\/span> out of the<\/span> clouds<\/span> up to the mountain station<\/span> at<\/span> the so-called “<\/span>Gipfelstubli” (lounge on the mountain peak). There we<\/span> enjoyed the magnificent view<\/span> of the sunrise<\/span> and the Swiss<\/span> mountains<\/span> landscape around the<\/span> Lake Lucerne<\/span> and Lauerz<\/span>\u00a0 – and<\/span> this all during working hours!<\/span><\/p>\n

Thanks to the good planning and coordination of all important construction details, we were able to assemble the weather station and put it into operation quickly, even before the first major snowfall took place.<\/p>\n\n

Meanwhile, the system has been in operation for almost one year. If you ever have the chance to get there, I recommend you to make a trip to the Rotenflue cable car. You will be received by an information screen at the ticket office displaying the weather data of the Lufft weather sensors and realtime images of the panoramic camera. This hopefully tunes you in on the breathtaking views – provided that the weather conditions are good.<\/p>\n

Technically<\/span>, we’ve realized<\/span> the construction<\/span> with the help<\/span> of the<\/span> Lufft I-Box<\/a>. This is <\/span>the first environmental application of the <\/span>small blue<\/span> box. It is <\/span>connected to the WS301 <\/a>all-in-one weather sensor <\/span>communication with the UMB<\/a> protocol. In order t<\/span>o enable the communication integration,<\/span> we have used<\/span> the existing<\/span> network<\/span>. By means of the Lufft I-Box<\/a>, we can access it remotely and <\/span>install updates<\/span>. In addition,<\/span> a meteorologist<\/span> takes care of the<\/span> detailed analysis of the<\/span> supplied measurement values<\/span>. The already mentioned <\/span>display<\/span> shows the data at the ticket office of the base station via TFT monitor.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n

I will always remember this special day at Rotenflue and hope for many more stations to install at such nice locations. Many thanks to all participants, who made it possible.<\/p>\n
