They stem for example from meteorological, traffic safety and airport application fields. Therefore, our ingenious developers of measurement technology searched for a suitable strategy to please many different target groups of weather monitoring systems. The result is the WS family, a modular and multifunctional sensor portfolio with an open UMB protocol, of which different versions meet different customer expectations.

The product names reflect the (amount of) features of each sensor type. The whole group reaches from WS200-UMB up to so far WS700-UMB and the higher the number, the bigger the furnishing. It is comparable to the Daimler car family.

As reported, this year two new models were introduced: the WS510-UMB, optimized for highest requirements in photovoltaics, as well as the WS700-UMB, the weather sensor with the most functions within one single casing. It consists of a temperature, relative humidity, air pressure, ultrasonic wind speed and direction, precipitation sensor, a silicon pyranometer (global radiation sensor) and an electronic compass. However it needs only one cable, like in all WS devices, and is the first weather sensor from Lufft combining precipitation and radiation probes at once. This makes the WS Family easy to install and maintain as well as cost-saving.

They are delivered with an Lufft Inspection Certificate but can also be certified by our DAkkS (former DKD) calibration laboratory after a 100 percentage testing of all single sensors, if the customers wishes so and adds this to the WS order. The lab’s traceable standards comply with the EN17025 ISO norm and therefore prove the high quality.

One of many interesting future markets will be the so-called Smart Homes. This term describes automated, cost effective and energy-saving houses, making the living there as easy as possible. Through the weather sensors from Lufft, the rolling shutters, windows and the temperature can be controlled automatically. It would be part of a home network consisting of different sensors influencing ambient conditions (temperature, humidity and daylight). Furthermore controllers for home automation as well as actuators for light switches and communication buses are needed. They are connected within a big network though interfaces triggering different interactions. Especially WS700-UMB offers a good cover of parameters for this. An all-in-one sensor saves cables and keeps the design clean. Other benefits from the compact Lufft sensors can be the prognosis of possible self-sufficient powering of the Smart Homes with the help of photovoltaics and small wind turbines.

The modularity allows the family to grow on easily, and the next Lufft Weather Sensor might be the WS1000-UMB – with maximum benefits.

The complete WS series you can find on lufft.com/en/products/all-in-one-sensors/.

Lufft has found the best way to serve customers of different industries and requirements.
