The race attracts teams from around the world, most of which are fielded by universities or corporations although some are fielded by high schools. The race has a 20-year history spanning nine races, with the inaugural event taking place in 1987.<\/p>\n\n<p>It doesn\u2019t need to be mentioned that the weather plays an important role during a race of solar powered vehicles. Although the cars are powered by sunshine, several different criteria also play an important role. Several extra measurements are performed to indicate the humidity, wind speed and direction, the air temperature , air density and so on. These parameters are crucial for the strategy program used during the race.<\/p>\n\n<p>Lufft supports the Punch Powertrain Solar Team, which consists of 17 students from the KU Leuven in Belgium. To make sure the team has all the information it needs, they use specialized high precision weather stations provided by Lufft.
