The Aon Center Tower building control and automation system plans to use the WS501-UMB to monitor temperature, humidity, solar radiation and wind from the rooftop 63 stories up! These measurements will be used to control the internal systems on the building. Humidity measurements control fans and temperature measurements alert the control system on how to control the air conditioning of the entire building. On a building this size, thousands of dollars are saved in heating and cooling each year!

Intelligent buildings are the newest revolution in environmental technology. Using ambient conditions to control energy use is quickly becoming the rule not the exception in modern building practices. Control systems, such as the one installed at the AON tower, allow building supervisors and HVAC professionals to include weather data into the system and use the information to control internal systems. Buildings are able to increase efficiency and save costs for heating and cooling. Using weather data in this way is not only good for the economy, but also for the environment. The control system at the AON Center Tower using the WS501-UMB by Lufft was designed by IAS controls of Brea, CA.

Lufft WS Family of weather sensors is extremely useful for these applications. Most building control systems can communicate with the sensors using direct RS485 connection with MODBUS-RTU protocol. Lufft WS Family of weather sensors can measure sun, rain, wind, temperature, humidity, pressure and surface temperature, all of which can be very useful to building control systems.
