Last year, Lufft launched its \u201cSeeking Passionate Weather Expert\u201d contest. Hobbyist weather watchers entered by sending in a great weather photo, a self-shot weather video or a poem. No limits were placed on the contestants’ creativity. After reading numerous applications from people passionately interested in meteorology and climatology, a clear winner stood out.<\/p>\n

Last year, Lufft launched its \u201cSeeking Passionate Weather Expert<\/a>\u201d contest. Hobbyist weather watchers entered by sending in a great weather photo, a self-shot weather video or a poem. No limits were placed on the contestants’ creativity. In addition to being named \u201cThe 2012 Lufft Weather Expert,\u201d the winner received a professional compact weather station including installation and personal training worth over \u20ac3,000.<\/p>\n

After reading numerous applications from people passionately interested in meteorology and climatology, a clear winner stood out: Alexander Burg from the German state of Saarland. Mr. Burg described in his cover letter his 40 years of experience and passion about all things meteorological. He also developed an advertising slogan for Lufft and promised to make the data collected from his Lufft weather station available to the public via a weather service and his own public website.<\/p>\n

His wish was our command: Mr. Burg received a weather station from the successful LUFFT WS product family. Mr. Burg’s systems consists of the WS200-UMB compact weather station <\/a>for measuring wind direction and wind speed 11 meters (36 feet) up and the WS301-UMB compact weather station<\/a> for measuring temperature, humidity and solar radiation at 2 meters (79 inches). The rain is measured via an external heated rain sensor. This complex weather station which meets World Meteorological Organization (WMO) standards can be used to provide regional and local weather forecasts and perform studies of weather conditions.<\/p>\n

On German national television ARD, Sven Pl\u00f6ger, meteorologist and host of daily weather show \u201cWetter vor Acht,\u201d gave a brief introduction to Alexander Burg’s newly-installed weather station.<\/strong> The ARD weather expert also shared Burg’s current readings with the audience\u2014 you can view the video here:<\/p>\n
